Rome 1 of 2

From the airport in Rome we took a bus into the city. Brad and I both had the same thoughts on our bus ride…this is Rome?? The outskirts are dirty and every square inch covered in graffiti. But alas, we made it into the city where the beauty and history began. Again, our hotel was quaint but very nice. I couldn’t have asked for better accommodations on our trip. We got settled into our room and then headed to dinner. We ended up at a Pizzeria down the street from us that is one of the oldest in the area that was supposed to have great pizza. It did not disappoint as I ate every last crumb off my plate! We then made our way to the Trevi Fountain to view its glory lit up at night. I really need better adjectives than beautiful, but it was. We threw a coin into the fountain and sat on the steps for awhile, admiring the structure. Photobucket

Then back to the hotel and bed…

Monday we enjoyed breakfast in our room that is part of our room rate. It was enjoyable with a nice cup of cappuccino. We then headed towards the Colleseo, or in English the Coliseum. How do you put into words such a site? Much like the Eiffel Tower, but even more so. The history involved…how this very structure, albeit very aged, has stood the test of time over thousands of years. Walking the inside left me in awe and made the entire trip to Rome worth it for that very experience.

We then made our way across the street to the Roman Forum and Palentine Hill. Again, beautiful and magnificent and amazing to be able to see in person ruins of the history of so long before. You could almost vision the Romans in that time walking around you.

We then enjoyed some extremely delicious gelato and headed back to our room to take a little breather. We then went to the Spanish steps shortly before the sun set, which was beautiful and then walked around the city just taking everything in looking at some of the piazzas and then looked for a place to eat dinner.

We came across a pizzeria our travel guide recommended and decided to try it out and had great tasting pizza. And then to bed...
